Paul Maze was known as the last Post Impressionist. He also had the distinction of having fought in two World Wars but for different countries. In WW1 he was with French Army and in the WW2 he was in British Army.

In the First World War he met Winston Churchill , a friendship that lasted a lifetime. Maze encouraged Chruchill to paint and became his mentor. Maze was a prolific artist working in oils , watercolour and Pastels.

His views of Paris and London and even New York were delicate snap shots of their time. He did a series of works of Elizabeth II Coronation, which brought him some fame. At the same time his paintings of Henley, Goodwood, Cowes were always popular.

In later life he worked more in Pastels with views of West Sussex where he lived and his most popular subject Still Lifes.

This oil is an early work form Paul Maze which clearly shows what a great painter he was.
