Watercolour, signed. 11ins x 12ins Exhibited at RBA in 1874, sold for £16.16S no 734
There is very little known about the artist John Randall, he exhibited his work at RBA between 1864 and 1874.
In this watercolour he has taken great care to capture the detail of the fabrics and objects. The filtered light through the curtains is very soft. The sitter could be learning a new tune to play on her mandolin.
It could be a new interpretation of a similar scene by Vermeer. Your eyes are drawn into the scene past textiles and objects and questions are asked.
